1. Respond to followers comments and questions
Keeping active in your comments section not only increases engagement with people who are already following you. It also brings in more people to your profile. When a user is going through your profile they will look through the comment section to check what others think. If you are responding to each individual comment (when appropriate) you’re showing you care about your audience. The key is knowing when to respond, If you can think of a clever and witty reply show appreciation to those who have something positive say. For those who have something negative to say don’t be afraid to come back with a witty reply. These comebacks need to be saved for rare occasions and need to be knockout blows. Always keep in mind that most people are on social media for entertainment, the worst thing you can be is boring.
2. Participate in conversations on popular post
On social media if you build it they will not come. You need to go to where the people are. Find popular posts that are getting thousands of comments and post something thats relevant and clever. If your comment is liked enough it will get pinned to the top of the comments section and more people will see it. Some of these people will click on your profile and if they like what they see they’ll follow your profile. A great way to get your comment liked is by commenting something funny. Remember people are on social media to be entertained. So entertain them!
3. Reach out to influencers
You may have heard of a company called Hi-Smile. It’s a teeth whitening company that was started by Alex Tomic and Nik Mirkovic. They grew their company to a $40 million business in just 3 years by using influencer marketing. They would mail their product to influencers for free in exchange for a review or shoutout on social media. This strategy worked great for them because they had a great product which had even better profit margins. So if you have a product where you can display your results visually Instagram influencer marketing is a strategy you should not neglect.
4. Encourage Customers with a free add on
Another tactic Hi-Smile would use was encouraging people who have bought there product to share their results on social media by offering a free whitening gel. This was another way of increasing their brand awareness on social media. Having people who have already bought from you share your product this way also acts as a personal recommendation from the people who are sharing their result. It says to the people that see the posts I’ve used this product and I like it.
5. Have a Personality
You have to be able to evoke emotions from people on social media and the best way to do this is to have a personality. If you choose to go down this route though it’s vital to understanding that if you choose to go down this path not everyone is going to like you. They key is to walk a fine line and calculate all the possible reactions to your posts and how people can respond. The last thing you want to do though is apologise, people are like vultures as soon as you show any sign of weakness they will pounce and ruin you. If you say something controversial that people might not like. The best way to react is to brush it off and double down.
A great example of someone who does this is Connor Mcgregor. There was a moment where an interviewer asked Connor after a press conference for the first Nate Diaz fight whether his comment about Nate were racially motivated because he called him a cholo gangster. Connors response: “Mate, shut the fuck up and get away from me. Remember that Jesus shit you brought up, Your an idiot!”
Another time Connor was asked whether he was a racist because he told Floyd Mayweather who was already dancing “dance for me boy”. Mayweather was his Opponent. When asked about this he said “I’m not racist. Do they not know I’m half black, I’m black from the belly button down.” It just shows the best medicine for outrage is laughter.
6. Follow people in your target demographic and like their posts
Following people who might be interested in your product or services is a great way to get them to your page. If they like what they’ll follow you back to keep updated. If they don’t you can send them a friendly message just reaching out to start a conversation with them.
You’ll find most people won’t want to buy from you right away because they don’t trust you. So your goal should not be to get people fork over their cash but to just get a follow back. Once they have done this you can provide value to them through your posts. This is to position your company as an expert in your industry and built trust. Then finally you can try and convert them to customers. But how do you find people in your target demographic? You can do this by following your competition and going through there posts and looking through people who have commented or liked their posts.
7. Provide Value with Infographics
Infographics are an easy way for people to consume information in a visual fashion. People are lazy and as I’ve already mentioned they are on social media to be entertained. Therefore writing a 5,000 word article isn’t really going to get a click unless the user is already very interested in the subject. An infographic that breaks that same information down in a way that is easy to understand will get more reactions and shares.
